My philosophy about film:
To be able to think about film as an art form I find it important to distinguish between the film as art and the film that is part of popular culture.
The latter is created under the influence of the market and is shaped in that specific way to be appealing to the consumers.
The former is then a film that is true to the artist’s understanding of the world and his/her ability to communicate this through the art form of film.
One of oldest human activities is telling stories. With them we tell each other how we see, feel the world and what is our truth. And film is just another way to tell them.
While popular culture films hold in them already agreed upon truths, art films try to show us new ones.
As a film editor and DIT I see my function as being able to completely listen to the artists to help them follow their vision.
As such, I try not to limit my abilities only to knowing how to operate different equipment and programs, but I also find it necessary to have excellent listening skills, open mind, teamwork skills and playfulness to be able to achieve the best results in my work.
